Death Valley deserves its name. While it was 103F here today at its peak, that’s far more tolerable for bike and biker than 120F. It gets above 110F, I’m not riding and I’m not by the side of the road. AC room or pool by 3:00 and no interest in posting a farcebook photo showing me at a temperature gauge at or near a record. That’s for younger, less experienced daredevils or fools. I was one, but I survived and if you are reading this, you did as well. Congratulations.

Sad to hear about someone getting killed and another hospitalized. I just can't imagine that heat.

I'm still trying to get a Death Valley ride in, but the timing is tricky here in the Rockies. It's usually hitting 100 there when we're still in snow. April or October might work if I can avoid snow.

our season short at our altitude. Was 45 at dawn and 60 when I rode to Wyoming today.

This story reminds me of some years ago some mountain climbers went to climb Mt. Hood in the dead of winter and as far as I know they are still on that mountain somewhere. Is a dangerous thing to do just for bragging rights.

Even when we ride from Southern California to areas of the Rockies we have a narrow window between the cold & snow, and the desert areas we have to cross through are tolerable. Even with that we’ve hit 105 outside of Vegas a few times, and our last trip to Colorado we hit 114 between Flagstaff & Durango…that was freakin hot.
