During Road Trip 2018, my ex and I were aboard Reaper coming out of Arizona into CA, on Interstate 10, going through the Mojave desert... at the end of July... running at 75 mph, I saw 120 F on the thermometer I have mounted over the steering stem nut, and the air was burning my skin! We could go for about 10 minutes at a time, before I started getting tunnel vision, so I was stopping at every gas station so we could get out of the sun, and re-hydrate. We got to a stop, where the next one was 60 miles away, and were forced to wait for a few hours until the sun went down, and it "cooled off" to around 105 F... I can't even imagine trying to ride through 128 F temps!
RIP to the fallen biker, and best wishes for a speedy recovery to the other(s).

I rode through Death Valley solo in August of '77. The temps were in the 60s with cloudy skies. A big storm had rolled through a day or two earlier. There was fast moving water across the road in a few places. I should have walked through it before riding my bike across, but I got through okay. I was on my way to San Fransisco via Yosemite National Park.
MI to CA and back was a good ride.
