Use good quality motorcycle oil that's designed for a big air-cooled V-twin. You're going to be changing it in 5,000 miles anyway. Don't use automotive oil that's designed for a thermostatically-controlled range of temperatures, you want oil made to handle the environment a giant air-cooled twin experiences. Every good manufacturer makes V-twin oil.
I've had dealers put in Harley Syn3 when I've had services done by the dealer (when I had a prepaid service agreement). When I had my 40,000 service done, it was done at an indy shop. Know what oil he used? Neither do I. I assume it was Amsoil because I just looked on their webpage and they do mention Amsoil, but the bike runs perfect and as long as it's a good quality oil it really won't make much of a difference.

Until someone can show me irrefutable evidence that their engine failed simply due to the use of "X" brand of oil I will say, "use whatever brand of oil meets OEM specifications".
I changed the oil in my Heritage last week, and I used Amsoil. Why? Because the previous owner gave me some. I'll be sure to check back in if my engine explodes.

Going to do the 1000 mile check up. I was going to use amsoil 20w 50 for my oil change. Was wondering if anyone has anyone has used amsoil? Also would you use this in inner primary & transmission also? In the past i have used syn3 but looking at results for amsoil & i looked in the oil section & went thru all of the posts. Can not post any new posts there.
Okay.

AMSOIL. I run it in everything. all three holes of my bike. Engine, trans, power steering, differentials, eng coolant, transfer case, and transmission in my truck. Never had a fluid related failure. But, I also ran about every fluid on the shelf at O'Riley's at work for my last job in the farm vehicles and also never had a fluid related failure. The most important thing is that you just have the proper fluid for the job.
