RE: Who actually uses this tool????
I have the HD adjustment gauge and use it as the manual recommends, but I wish that they would come out with a better set up. Until they do, I will continue to just use it as per instruction. Darned if I can accurately guess how much 10 lbs. of up pressure is with out it.

I ran out and bought one right after buying my first belt equipped bike, tried using it and found it was easier to do it with my finger using a guesstimate of what a gallon of milk (8 to 8.5lbs)would feel like it I was picking it up on my fingertip. That method has worked for me so far. I'm still riding on my original belt after 67k miles.

Bill, is the procedure for using this tool in the service manaul? I haven't looked at that part yet?

I use one any tiem I change a tire or do anything that has the potential to change the tension on the belt. I also check the belt tensionabout every 3,000 miles.
The need is this. A belt that is too loose flops and causes undue wear. A belt that is too tight is very hard on transmission and wheel bearings. Why wouldn't you want to be as accurate as possible when doing any maintainance.??

RE: Who actually uses this tool????
The answers weren't making sense to me. Then I realized the question in the post wasn't,"Who actually uses his tool???"
I had one for my Sporty, checked it all the time, but after a while you get a feel for the "twisting" method. It's quicker and just as close I think.
