Let's put it this way. If the HD service dept were in charge of doing my taxes, I'd be bunking in the big house for the next few years.

Yep, in theory you shouldnn't have to check on this stuff, but in pratice you sure better.

.......I shouldn't have to mark sparkplugs or check the oil to see that they did a job that they said they were going to do and I paid for.

I agree completely on the first part but disagree completely on the second part.

There are just as many crappy jap dealers as there are HD dealers.

Salina Harley Davidson Salina Kansas is no different. I took my bike in for the 1000 mile service. When I picked it up I checked the oil and it was black. I said hey you need to change the oil. "Get this" They told me that the Syn 3 looks black as soon as you start the bike. Me being a dumb aZZ about this syn stuff believed them. Next oil change I did myself and hey guess what? he's a liein SOB. Man did I feel stupid. I told a buddy that was taking his in for a tune up so he put marker marks on his plugs and you guessed it when he picked it up there were the marks. Man did he raise hell with them. Fact is how many people don't notice. Ya got any Idea how much they take in with these scams??? A lot of riders now days wouldn't know a spark plug from an exhaust pipe. And the dealewr just takes them for a ride.

Best advise is buy a manual and learn to do it your self. It's a shame the Jap dealers do such a good job and good old AMERICAN dealers are frickin thieves.
Funny you should mention that, as the dealer in Salina is "Salina Harley Davidson - Honda"

That was really stupid of her. She should have told you they would send you a gift cert. or something. You have no idea how important those surveys are to the dealership and your salesman.

Some of your complaints may have been out of their control because no one know how long it's gonna take the DMV to get you a plate or how long HOG will take to get your card but they should have listened and tried to make things better. She was probably some kid they hired to make phone calls for them.
Sounds right. She probably had a script to read from and was not capable of thinking on her own two feet when someone threw her a curve ball.

Notice how you can write a whole paragraph and all anybody notices is the last line. I said I was frickin wrong about the jap dealers OK let it go. The position I was taken is if you want your figgin bike serviced right do it yourself OK????

Well gang there not any better in NY. Suffolk HD.
Although this is my second HD from them , first one an 04 1200 C sporty
this is a 07 FXDWG.
The sales guy was nice, took his time had all the paper work etc. Didn't try to sell me a bunch of crap he knew I would not buy.
The owner [ he said he was, but not Mr. Baron] would not match zanotties 20% off price on a list of things I would have ordered.
Pipes, Heavy breather A/C, gas guage, derby cover, grips, sissy bar, side plates. Tail light kit and service manual. I even said make it 15% and you got a deal. NO soap. With part of my $300 credit I got the manual and tail light kit.
Anyway when my new scoot came around it was ok, not great no wax [ was a left over floor model]
My wife who was with me had to go back to work, so I sorta rushed too.
Anyway I rode around the block, the fukin handle bars were crooked.
Back I went. Then home
There was anti seze grease on the rear pully and oil filter, black grease like stuff on the center of the front rotor and on the rear rim. Only 5/8 tank of gas, not a full tank. Finger prints and marks all over the tins and chrome. and a small nick in the lower tree.
I just got the survay, with all fairness to the sales man I gave him good, but the part about the bikes condition gets CRAP.

Sorry you had a bad experience allengator,I have had nothing but great things to say about them, last year my friends wife wanted to surprise him and buy him a new harley, the salesmen rode the bike from ft worth to a restaraunt in arlington where she surprised him with it,thats at least 35-40 miles. Yes the hd dealers will all give you a free T-shirt with there name on it when you buy a bike, are you advertising for them yes,I just got back from sturgis few weeks ago,all the way up I bought T-shirts with dealer names on em,thats part of the deal, when I wear a t-shirt from cheyenne wy I rode there. Also as far as warranty work his pass peg broke while we were at sturgis we moved it down a hole and put a bolt in it. Ft worth harley drilled out the bolt and replaced a chrome part that was damaged under warranty no problem whatsoever even though it broke when he dropped the bike.
I'm glad to hear that...
And I'm really not trying to BASH them.... I really didnt have a BAD experience... Just think it could be better, the little things make a big difference!

Customer service just isnt what it used to be.....

I fill out those performance evals in the past too. They have a rating system something along the line of:
Terrible Average Good Really Good Super Duper Good Amazing

Without a decode of what they are implying by each rating I can only give them an Average if they don't set fire to my scooter while working on it. Their work is what I expect of them, which is the average.

I think 90% dealers s*ck. They just don't care about you or thebike, just get the bike in and out, salesman are the same way smiling at you and f**ckingyouin the back door as you purchase the bike.

When I finally took delivery of my bike, the dealer had lost my owner's manual and had to order a new one. And as far as the survey goes... They were smart - they never sent one.

I love my Harley and smile everytime I get on. But my dealer just plain sucks!

I was very fortunate that everything about my purchase was great (except the price of course). The sales manager is a good friend of mine, so when we got the survey we dicided to have some fun. We made an exact copy of it, color and all. We complained about evrything from the color of the floor to all the orange shirts the sellmen wear. We then took the survey to our friend and told him he needed to go to the back room and read it, he came back white as a ghost and asked "what happened". My wife had to walk away to keep from laughing, I just said we had some problems that needed fixed. Then we told him it was all a joke and that wasn't the real survey. He still talks about my wife being the mean woman that tricked him. If you are ever at Four Rivers Harley in Paducah, Ky (formerllly Sills Harley) ask Jeff if he's ever had a real bad survey. We are due the second survey and he is already dreading it.
