Why? American Legend/Made in China?
High end H-D leathers made in China?
Checked three dealers and they all seem to just hang their heads and look around
when asked why H-D supports products from Communist China.
What do ya'all think?? Should we care?
Personally, I think it sucks and let the dealer know it!
They sure charge a premium...must be the shipping!
Thanks for the feedback.
Great forum
ps Sure,H-D top of their line may not be for other companies. But I'd rather buy American or
as a 2nd-from Mexico.

If you can possibly take your emotions out of, the leather products that Harley sells are the top of the line. Do they make a huge profit off that stuff? You bet.

actually,..I got my leather from here http://www.bikersden.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=726
I prefer the brown leathers over the black,...and I can't afford to buy them from Harley.

Harley leathers are "top of the line?" Not hardly!
Any of the American-made leather products from Schott, Bates, Vanson, Branded Leather, or Fox Creek Leather are much better quality and in most cases cost less.

My son uses a perforated leather Harley riding jacket and it's much better quality than anything else I was able to find. And trust me, I looked. It's hard finding REAL riding gear for a 7 yr old w/o buying online and online was out of the question since I wanted my son to try it on before buying.
Bottom line with that jacket: Got for a great price (on sale) and it's QUALITY leather.
Now, I'm looking for a leather vest (I know...I'll look like a poser, but so what?) and I've yet to find a leather vest locally that compares to the heavy-duty stuff I found at the HD dealer. Again, I'm trying to avoid buying online since I need to try on stuff, but we have lots of leather gear supplied by bike shops/dealers in the area and HD again is coming out ahead in the quality dept with some heavy-weight leather.

Obviously, the primary reason they get products made overseas is profit margin. However, HD wants to be a global supplier. As a result, they need to purchase various products from foreign suppliers. Same reason Asian auto makers assemble some of their vehicles in the US.
For what it's worth, I had to replace the fuel valve on my '05 Standard. The genuine HD part was made in Japan.
Face it, it's a global economy.
