Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that a Rolex and an oil would be discussed inthe same conversation ... The life I've lived :>)

Not unlike Harleys, Rolexes that sit seem to need more spa attention when sent in than those that run all the time.

Even though Rolex would recommend a RSC service every 2 years, the new movement is now every 5 years. Many have run Rolex watches to failure after decades of daily wear, paid for one (expensive) service and then carried on. Rolex has confiscated dials and other parts that weren't original to the model when it was built and charged for new replacement of original equipment parts. A friend had an "aftermarket" diamond on his watch and Rolex somehow caught it; they would not repair his watch w/o him replacing that errant diamond with a "Rolex" diamond. I don't know how they get away with it - but that's what they do.

Harley requires a service at 1,000 mile service which is supposed to catch stuff that may have been less than perfect from the factory but winds up being a very fast, very haphazard and expensive three hole fluid change. I had a H-D Stealership once tell me that they wouldn't warranty my defective H-D tachometer because the Stealership didn't do my 5,000 mile service. A quick lesson on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act that I was kind enough to share solved that in short order.

I will go so far as to say that Rolex Service Centers are actually worse than H-D Stealership. Thank goodness that in both cases there are Indy shops for us. Unfortunately, Rolex very tightly controls parts availability to non-authorized shops. At some level, H-D is trying to control authorized P&A availability to the masses.

I also own a Suzuki (or two) and a Seiko (or three).
Seiko Turtle is my fav and as of this moment I'm wearing one of the travelling beaters, an NH434 mod Batman GMT on a Jubilee.
May have to take the V-Strom or the mighty Bandit out for a ride in respect of this thread.

I have a 1400 intruder but my son rides it far more than me. As for the watch got it for graduation 30 years ago and that’s probably the last time I wore it.

As for the original topic I will probably never buy a brand new bike and I wouldn’t step into the local Tucson dealership if the free donuts had cocaine sprinkles.

Default Harley & Rolex

LoL, I got some laughs out of the replies anyway. Just an FYI I believe the cost of owning and maintaining a Harley far exceeds that of a Rolex. They also hold their value better. A phone conversation with a authorized Rolex dealer this afternoon who suggested if you want to purchase new, get your name on a two year plus waiting list. It takes a year to build a Rolex I was told, every part is made by them, hand built..World demand far outweighs supply. They didn't even have a new one in stock nor a certified used one of any of the models I would be interested in .Only buy from a certified dealer new or used.. Authorized dealers only I was told. Service is registered with Rolex when needed, keep all paperwork and boxes as this adds to resale value..Hence the used market is bringing resale prices higher than current MSRP of new, especially on high demand models. Really makes you wonder how many folks are willing to part with that kind of money on a timepiece. I was taken back to hear that.

Harley possibly should have stayed with their original business model of lower production numbers higher resale value, and not flooded the market. Seems to be working very well for Rolex..

Now,where the hell did I leave my Timex ?
