For me it's 2 things. The apes put me in a more comfortable riding position, and they look friggin' COOL!

Cheers!

here we are again
apes are not illegal everywhere (just in your mind)
apes are the most comfy bars around (for me)
cornering not effected the least bit (i have wittnesses)
no problem with circulation (for me)
long rides are great (3/5 hundred regulary)
any body that wants to try apes in san diego area drop me a line come ride mine(i'll ride yours)
my apes are only 16 on ane inch risers...

Let me add that I don't have any problems with circulation to my hands (or anywhere else for that matter), or handling issues (in fact, I found her EASIER to handle after I went with the taller bars), and I've ridden plenty of 500+ miles days with the apes.

Cheers!

there are reasons they are illegal everywhere!!!!
They are not illeagal everywhere. they are only illeagle if they are too high according to the state you are riding in.rule of thumb is if they extend above your shoulders, they are illeagal.
Like these?

And we wonder why this country is going to Hades in a handbasket.
Inbreeding, socialism and public education to blame, I believe.

Heritage bars on my scoot now but I do want to go with 12" bars... for comfort reasons actually. Probably not much higher but a little better wrist angle maybe.

Wow . . a lot of responses for a dead topic

I suppose comfort is a very subjective and personal thing. I actually found it more comfortable to ride my CBR for 300 mile rides than I do my Sporty. I really can't imagine Apes being more comfortable for the long haul, but again it is a personal thing.

That's cause the Sporty was not built or designed to be a long haul bike. It was built to compete with the cafe racer style of bike that became popular back in the 50's over in Europe. Try a Softail or Road King with apes that fit your style of riding, and you'll be suprised at how comfortable you will be on a 600 or 800 mile day.

No one ever said it was a "dead" topic, just one that's been beaten to death...several times this year.

Ape threads always turn out like 1%er, oil, and wave threads. Everyone is right and everyone that disagrees with them is wrong.

No height restrictions in TN.
None here in VA either.
