This may just be a rant.

Today I rode in poker run that was about 180 miles round trip. On the third leg I was following the same guy the entire way and you I could tell he was looking back trying to figure something out. So when we arrived at the next stop I parked next to him. The conversation when like this.....

Him: What sort of bike is that anyway, a low rider?

Me: No, it is a Soft tail, just a standard

Him: That thing sure is plain, not much chrome at all. What do those cost like 20k?

Me: No, not 20k.

Him: Oh that thing must have the small motor then.

Me (chuckling) Yeah just the 96 with the 6 speed.

I then walked away and thought WHAT A (insert 3 or 4 letter word)

I have had nothing but compliments on my bike and this was the first time someone has said negative things. I do realize the standard is the basic model, but it is what I like and it is the perfect bike for me. I have chubby drag bars and relocated front signals so far and I love the bike. I plan on adding more stuff when the $ is right. I think this guy has no idea what he is talking about. Has anyone else had some person do this to them. Whatever happened to "nice bike" what is with all this critiscm. I just figured I would vent a little and see what everyone thought of this guy. And if you are the guy who asks 100 questions just to respond with, negativity, spare some breath and don't ask. I love talking about bikes and asking questions but I never say oh I don't like that, or I would do it different.

What y'all think?
We all run into knuckleheads like this every so often. Highly irritating at the moment but quickly forgotten.

Believe it or not, there are actually other riders that couldn't tell a Sporty from a Dyna, or a Road King from a EG Classic.( and some of them ride a Harley)
well, unless it's written on the bike somewhere, I often don't know the model, but I'm new to the Harley world, so I just ask. But I ask because I want to learn ... and when the owner tells me, I usually say "wow, that's purdy", or some other nice comment. Even if I don't like the particular style bike, I would never say so. I'd still probably say, "nice bike". Because to each his own, and why criticize? Some people are just jerks.

Sounds like the fukstick that wants to say that my bike is not a true Harley anymore because I replaced the blown motor with an S&S.
Joke 'em if they can't take a ***...

I also have the softail std. the first time I heard - is that a sportster I was upset. finally figured out people are so used to see HD with all the junk on them they don't recognise a bike that is for riding not listening to the radio on.
anyway I just tell them it's a real harley and let it drop ..It's my bike I bought what I wanted and ride the hell out of it enjoy your ride..

To throw a twist on the line from "Full Metal Jacket": (I think?)

"This is my Harley. There are NO others like it, 'cuz this one is MINE!"

Each bikeeventually becomes an individual statement. If someone don't like YOUR statement, tell them ta STFU!

I forgive the occasional innocent mistake when people ask about my bike, but itsounds like that dude had a 'tude. That is Fkked up.[sm=boink3.gif]

Personally, I think ALL Harleys are wicked-looking! Hell, even a "Rat bike" is a heckuva statement!
