Motorcylces save gas is a myth

RE: Motorcylces save gas is a myth
I go further on a tank of gas, but then I go further. And more often. My Quicken tells me I have spent $525 for motorcycle gas, and $925 for the car so far this year. The car gets 23 mpg and the bike (the02 anyway) gets 37. Of course there is the disparity in cost per gallon 'cause the car uses 85/87 and the bike 91.
But when you put it on a passenger/mile basis, the car, which seats five gets 115 passenger miles per gallon, and the bike which seats two gets 74 passenger miles per gallon. So if 3.2 people go somewhere in the car, it equals the bike's efficiency. But if each vehicle is driven solo, the bike is more efficient. Like in commuting.

You know my hubby keeps wondering how I save gas too.
I get up in the morning and the weather is miserable or I have something that requires the car to deliver soI take the car. By lunch the weather is beautiful and I'm chopping bit so I drive the 20 miles home to pick up the bike and then back to work....he can't for the life of him figure out how that saves gas......

Compared to driving my '89 F250 454, I can get all the "extra" riding in and still be saving gas... trust me.

Use my F150 4x4 all week and it costs me $90...
Same trips on my Harley cost $12 for the entire week.

Fun thread. The real cost is in tires. Shoot, I can put four tires on my Topaz for the price of one rear on the Ultra. The car tires last 50,000 miles, the rear 10.

So instead of worrying about the gas you're burning or not burning, keep in mind that you're burning calories while riding. Ride, ride, ride. Think of all that weight you're losing. See...riding the bike is an important health acitivity. Just don't tank up with cheeseburgers when you refill that gas tank. Oop's...not supposed to mention the burning of all that gas on the way to the burger shack are we?
