Would you buy older Harley’s with no OEM parts support?

I wouldn’t want a vehicle of any type, that is my primary transportation, to not be able to readily obtain parts. I’m dealing with that now with my 9 year old Marine VHF radio for my boat. The microphone went out, and I can’t find a replacement. I won’t go off shore out of cell phone range without the radio working. I’ve already been subjected to 2 “after market” scams. And another one pending. I’m gonna have to just buy a new radio.
So, although you might be able to get aftermarket parts, you don’t have a guarantee of the timeframe of availability, the quality, or even that you can replace the particular part at the most reasonable level. For example, you might have to replace an entire carb, because the float became porous and sinks. Been there with an old Japanese (Made for Chrysler by Mitsubishi) car.

So, you go to dealers when you can’t get what you need aftermarket? So, that shows you can’t always get what you need aftermarket…What happens when you can’t get what you need from the dealer?

No, I go to the dealer when I am in the middle of working on my scooter and need a small part to finish the work I am doing.
