+1 for all those who have said "You earned 'em, wear them with pride."

Actually had one of the NCOs in my old ARNG unit start driving around with a Purple Heart license plate. We pulled hisrecord and hmmm...no record of him earning one. One of our guys was a Sr. Virginia State Trooper and had a little talk with the Sgt. Plate was gone the next day.

One other story - In Army OCS, our TAC Officers were talking to us about integrity and wearing the uniform. They actually had a guy show up a year or two before wearing a Trident and some other Navy/MarCorps medals/ribbons. They asked him to produce his DD214 showing where/how he earned them. He couldn't. By the end of the month he was a civilian with a Less than Honorable Discharge. They wanted to give him a BCD, but it would have taken too long.

Don't care how low on the rack the medal/ribbon/award is. If you didn't earn it, don't wear it (unless you're honoring family, like those who have posted here.) You obviously earned yours, otherwise you wouldn't care if it was "ok."

Well, now here's a question.

I ran into a guy this summer who was riding through my town (Bozeman, MT). Nice guy, until I saw half the PX sewed on his back. I asked him where he served, his MOS, all that kind of stuff. He said he was an 88M (truck driver) back in the '80s, but wears all the patches on his vest to honor those serving overseas.

Well, I honestly didn't know what to say. He was wearing a lot of stuff that I earned the hard way (scroll, tab, wings, CIB, etc.) Even though he was honest about it, I still wanted to call him out for the pogue that he was. But, as all that stuff was also next SF tab an unit patch, CFMB, diver, pathfinder, etc., chopper wings...everything, and all kinds of unit patches, I just figured it would be clear to anyone that he was not all of that and likely not even some of it. I thanked him for honoring those in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Afterwards, my wife told me to chill out. My hackles still get raised when I see legs wearing black berets--can't get used to that.

Anyway...what do you fellow vets think about the "tribute museum/PX" vest?

Whatever you do, don't be a military poser, impersonator or fake vet. It just might cost you more than you're willing to pay. Click Here and learn about the "Stolen Valor Act of 2005". Another suggestion is to read "Stolen Valor" by Burkett & Whitley.

Years ago, I wore a 12th Army Air Corp patchto honor my dad's WWII service. I think it was obvious to everyone that I wasn't old enough to earn it. Regardless, if you served wear it with pride and humility.
