It is bull.
Another item in an article in the same mag said that taking a TC88 to 103 c.i. does not involve a longer stroke.
Obviously the writer(s) of these comments does not know what the hell he is talking about.

you GOT to be friggin kidding me.

"our engines run way too hot...so instead of FIXING THAT, we want you to spend more money"

Oh Boy another oil thread!!

THE factory will, in fact, VOID your warrantee if, after an oil analysis, it finds "another oil" other than H-D is AT FAULT for an engine failure..

The Magneson Act has a section that addresses this issue, and it does state that if an "aftermarket" part (or oil) is the CAUSE of a failure, the warrantee CAN be voided.. read the WHOLE act not just the first few paragraphs... Congress basically CYA'd themselves with that provision...

That's the way it works folks...so put in H-D oil for the duration of your warrantee and don't worry about it..

All ya'll do is b*tch about this and that from the factory.. if ya don't like it.. BUY A HONDA!!!

That's a very, very good point. However, and I haven't read the article yet so I can't say for sure, like most cases I have seen where magazines run by the company only provide part of the information. You're lucky to find the fine print anywhere in the publication... usually not the case. Now, whether they just forgot to include that information or they purposely withheld it as a "scare tactic" to strongly encourage H-D owners to buy only their oil... I don't know if that would be violating any kind of law or act or addendum or whatever, but it sure is a shrewd business practice, even if it's underhanded and sneaky and wrong in the minds of consumers. My wife owns a VW Jetta and they pull crap like that all the time (not coming through on the warranty by only giving her half the information). She basically tells them to shove it by reciting back to them the info they "omitted" regarding the warranty, and then they take care of it the way they're supposed to as outlined in the warranty.

Like I said, I haven't read the article in question, I'm not an H-D owner just yet and haven't been thoroughly through the warranty info, so I could be way off base. But hey, it's a public forum, might as well offer my $.02.

Pay attention to the word you underlined - CAUSE. It would be hard to prove that Amsoil, Redline, Mobil-1, Castrol, etc., CAUSED a failure. Also, I am not sure without research (and nobody is paying me to do it), but I have a sense that an argument could be made that the term "aftermarket part" does not apply to common, commercially-available maintenance products such as oils and lubricants.

I sent the email and made sure I attached the "Esq." to my signature.

P.S. Anybody else tired of the "Buy a Honda" retort used by so many? I love Harley-Davidsons, been riding them for almost 30 years and even sport a Harley tattoo. That certainly does not mean that I blindly follow a large multi-national corporation no matter what they do.

Too bad we don't have the people or the funds to challenge that statement
in court. Just for the because of it. Maybe the news media can do a piece
on it and quote the M act.
