Default 2008 Isolated Drive Sysem (IDS) and tranny

What isIDS exactly? Does it work? Did The MoCo do anything different with the 2008 transmission or will it generate the same complaints as the '07?

IDS is a cush drive setup in the rear sprocket like the jap bikes have had for years. The trans in the 07 and 08`s are the same unit. There are no trans problems. The 5th gear whine is a normal operational characteristic.
The biggest problem with the 07`s 08`s pertains to the EPA mandate for cleaner emissions. It`s the same thing that hit the auto industry on the 80`s. The lean mixture and sound level restrictions kill the bikes ability to perform.
I have changed my ECM, Exhaust system and air cleaner to get better fuel control on my 07 SG.
The bike runs and operates very well. I removed the EPA cork so to speak. I can run 6th gear at 60 MPH, short shift all I want and no chugging/clatter problems. The heat issue has been eliminated completely.

I got Big Radius w/just a remap on my 06 and use 6th anywhere above 55. Now the ratios are slightly different, but you should not lug at 60.

I am using the TM with Auto Tune on my 07 WG.Put one on my buddy's 07 street bob too.
Was the best thing I ever done for my bike besides taking the stock mufflers off with resnators in them holding the gasses to ruburn them.

form MoCo:
Introduced on the '08 Touring models, the Isolated Drive System improves rider comfort and ride quality by dampening the mechanical noise and vibration caused by the engine's torque pulses. The rubber compensation elements in the sprocket act like a cushion, absorbing the power pulses from the engine. With the IDS installed, the motorcycle feels more refined, and is quieter while accelerating, shifting and cruising. Kit includes sprocket, compensator bowl, and installation hardware.

It can be added to an 07 for $305 retail

Hmmm... I'm wondering why I had no problems whatsoever running the '07 Low Rider I rented last Christmas in 6th gear at 55-60mph... Do they tweak up the rental fleet bikes or something?

I had a 07 street bob, seems like with the light weight and the way it is geared , it just didn't want to pull if you got in 6th gear under 65mph. A new bike is tight and you have to give it time to let everything break in. Not saying this is easy either. I broke in 2 bikes last year.
I took mine out on the interstate and just rode and rode and rode. It jumped out of gear a couple times at 1st when taking off in 1st. But by the time I had 1000 miles I had gone with SYN3 oil and everything started getting better. Bike was kinda funny at start but I gave it time and everything turned out very good. Now its looser and shifts and runs good and pulls better.

Nope...I run the DTT setup with the WEGO IID and rinehart exhaust. The DTT has auto tune also.
