How tall a windshield should I buy?
I'm gonna replace the w/s on my heritage this weekend. It seems, they come in 3 styles. Tall, Standard (which I now have), and "short".
With my current "standard", I definately look thru it. Not even close. Today, I stood on my pegs to seehow the wind waswhile lookingover the top edge....I liked it! I likehaving the "spoiler" effect for wind w/out having to look thru the plastic. But, I'm afraid of losin' rain protection w/ the shorter...
(fwiw) I've never really liked them at all, but I've slowly "seccummed" to their virtues, esp. during weather)

You answered your own question. Get the Short one. You will not regret it. You should be looking over the top of it and most rain will go over the top of your head. You will probably get more rain hitting you coming up from underneath the windshield than from over it. Also it can be a pain in the azz to look through a wet, dirty windshield. I am like you in that I like to not be fighting the wind on long high speed tripsbut still like the feeling of being in the wind. I have an HD Compact windshield on my FXSTC and still had several inches cut off. I am 5'11" and it works well for me. Get the short one.

Depends on "How big a boy are ya" per Imus..you want to be looking over it- so the height is relative to your upper body dimensions and your saddle...least at leave a few inches from your eyeline.
Do a search on posts and I'll bet you find some relevant posts.

the harley parts and accessory book advises you choose a windshield that is just below your line of sight. first rain storm and you'll understand why. i see Hondas that the windshield looks like the copped it from an old Bell 47 helicopter. LOL.

I have a shorty. I prefer to look over the shield. This is the one I use on long trips when its hot.
I also have a tall one which I look through, thats the one I use when its real cold.
Around town I don't use one cause I'm cool! [sm=pimp.gif]

1. Cut my old one down to the short, "perfect" height
2. Order a new tall one from JC Whitney for runnin' cold
3. And keep it "a rule to stay cool" around town
