Default RE: flash

My understanding from others is you want to have the flash done when you install a high-flow air cleaner setup. If all you had done was just the mufflers getting the flash done is not really needed. It's the additional air that will require additional fuel to be added to the engine to get the correct air / fuel ratio.

Now, there are those who do not recommend the HD Stage 1 Flash and label it as worthless and will recommend adding an aftermarket management system like the PC IIIusb or the SERT. Personally I did both the Stage 1 Flash and added a PC III. This allows me to remove the PC III if needed (like a trip to the dealer) and still have the bike run decent. In fact I currently have the PC III unhooked and running just the Stage 1 ECM. The bike seems to be running better in the cooler weather and I'm getting a little better fuel mileage. When the temps warm back up I'll reinstall the PC III. Does that make logical sense? I couldn't tell you, but I CAN say it works for me.

Hope this helps,
Brian

You must have a f.i. bike besides your namesake...a 2003 Sporty? If so, then yes, you will need to do something if you change the air cleaner to a hi-flow type.

Get it flashed. It won't hurt anything and your bike will run a lot better with new EFI settings. I have an '06 Dyna with SEIIs, and stock air filter. When I put the pipes on it, I noticed that it seemed down on torque and just didn't perform as well as it should. I got the Stage I flash and the difference is remarkable. I still have the stock air cleaner and might upgrade to the SE air cleaner, or I might not. The bike runs great now.
