Lets first break down what the term "Custom" entails which includes but is not limited to the strong likelihood of...
- Poor quality aftermarket parts
- Low grade coatings (i.e. rapidly bubbling chrome, fading anodized finishes and crappy powder coating)
- Zero spare parts availability
- Miles upon mile of discomfort (due to...)
- Poorly thought out ergonomics purposefully compromised in the name of abstract styling (as executed while higher than Tommy Chong) and always asking questions like...
- What were those paint codes again?
- Where can I find the torque values for those spiked cap nuts?
- How come my garage always smells like raw gas?
- Why does that fuse link keep blowing?
- I know it looks cool but isn't it dangerous to run an exposed primary?

i was always (slightly) embarrassed to tell anyone i had a 'sportster custom' and then a 'road king custom', followed by 'road glide custom', because of that very reason. sure, i added some different things, and changed things up a little on them (who doesn't?), but by no means would i consider them 'custom builds'.
i get a kick of the folks that call their bike a 'custom build', when all they've done is add some gee gaws, and maybe changed the seat and handlebars...
