I'm not going to Sturgis but will be taking other, possibly even a longer trip of two this year. At my age, 70, I can't wait to do the bike trips I want to do, even if it costs more. Not enough time left before this old body can't do it anymore. Thinking of the Grand Canyon next month.

I've made the Trip more than a few times ... Depending on which way I go it's either 1200 or 1400 miles one way ... I generally average about 40 mpg which at the current price on the 1200 ride is $270.00 ... On the 1400 mile route it'll be about $315.00 ... The fuel price is about $1.50 higher than on the last couple of trips which would be an increase of about $90.00 on the 1200 mile route and about $95.00 on the 1400 mile route ... Think about it ... Many here have spent more than that getting out of a bar ... Of course I didn't factor miles ridden while there ... Food for thought ??

But how much higher will gas be by August? Its always a dollar higher or more up there during the rally. I've penciled is Sturgis this year and want to go to Jellystone afterward but if gas gets over 6 bucks a gallon around here it will be over 8 bucks inside the park. Its over 4 bucks a gallon now around here. The higher cost of everything may put a damper on the trip this year or may just have to forget about riding Bear Tooth Pass this year.

I think a lot of people are cancelling or re-considering their vacation plans this year, especially given the unknowns for the foreseeable future. The cost of everything has skyrocketed, not just fuel. Food prices have gone nuts, both restaurants and stores. The extra money they had for vacation is now paying for ever increasing prices of everything. I will only attend Bikes Blues & BBQ this year, its only about a 3.5hr ride from home.

CDC just gave an update....as long as you don't spank your monkey, no monkey pox. Word is that some part of our population is resistant to CDC guidance. Your call.

at this stage of my life, (don't drink, don't party, don't particularly like crowds and hate traffic) Sturgis isn't something I "have" to do..but if was one of those things important to me, a couple hundred more wouldn't make or break it.
$4-$500+ on the total budget might if I couldn't (or didn't want) to sacrifice elsewhere.
Like a pound of baloney, loaf of bread and 2 ltr bottle of generic grape soda instead of restaurants and sidewalk sausage vendors and $2 dollar bottles of water.
