A generator bottom end that ended in 1969 in a soft tail frame is a prototype? I thought prototypes were rolling test beds for new ideas.

The original design of that frame came 2 guys in shop in St Louis Mo. in the late 70's, you'd see it advertised occasionally in chopper magazines back then. I was pretty jazzed about the idea but the thing was over $1300 when you buy a hardtail add on for $60 or a whole frame from Paughco for $250.

MoCo jumped on it before it became a fad and bought the patent rights. Rest is history.

Here's an old picture of my 52 panhead and it isn't the only rigid I've ever owned. Man up.

It's too bad we didn't get a year or two of Shovelhead Softails like we did with the FXRs.
