Default final breather question.

I've been having a bit of oil leaking from the breather system so I'm going to an external breather. I'm replacing the backing plate bolt type on the left with the bolt type on the right. Would I be right in thinking a bit of thread sealer on the end of the new bolts where they screw into the heads would be appropriate?

Wouldn't hurt to put a couple drops of blue on it , but the inner threads on the head need to be clean and free from oil or it won't do any good . I would also replace the o-rings / seals on the backing plate as well .

Good point on the inner threads as well as the backing plate seals. Thanks

Hylomar Blue, won’t eat orings. I wouldn’t do the threads with anything they don’t back out. Seal the air cleaner boss to head, and the bolt shoulder to air cleaner. This fix worked on mine to eliminate oil creep in these areas.

Get the original - not the US Permatex knockoff which is a runny mess. I got mine thru Amazon.

HD says to use the blue loctite on those in their Screamin Eagle air cleaner kit. https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....0?locale=en_US
