Quickest Production Bike
Here's one to tell all your metric riding friends. Guess who makes the quickest production bike? Harley Freakin' Davidson! They're making a V-Rod set up for the strip that has already run a low 9 second 1/4 mile.
(But don't tell 'em it ain't street legal.)

For years I heard about the Busa, but I know that the 1996 Triumph Daytona 1200 beat it by about 6 miles an hour off the shop floor stock. I'm talking top end. There is no way that a V-rod will ever beat that bike in a top end war.

Don't expect it to remain that way for long. The land of the rising sun won't let this pass up. This is the year the companies are back at war for speed and trying to usurp the busa.
Like this from yamaha at $18K: http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/pr...99/0/home.aspx
Kawasaki has something to compete with the busa as well:

I'm sure suzuki will respond and Honda will want a piece of it at some point.

Last time I checked it was the Kawasaki ZX-10 still held the quickest acceleration. The Busa still holds top end speed though.
With muscle bikes like the V-Rod, it is like a split between the Rocket 3 and the Vmax.
I will try and find it but there was some guy that mounted a camera on his Busa while he realy raced on the audobon. He did a one wheel salute all the way up to 100+ mph and pegged the speedo at about 210 mph and was still going faster. You could tell because the tach was still rising.
The stability of this bike at those speeds was incredible.

Would be curious to see the report/evidence that a '96 Triumph was the fastest (top speed) stock bike ever. According to every bike report/magazine article I've read the mid 90's Kawasaki ZX-11 set the speed record, then it was superceded by the '97 Honda CBR1100XX (I own a '99 XX). The crown rested with this bike until the '99 Suzuki Hyabusa came along at a 186mph. Then the Asian manufacturers voluntarily agreed to the 186 ceiling, in effect killing the sales of the new Kawasaki ZX-12 rumored to be the next top speed king. One could ride this bike and feel it almost "turn off" once it entered the realm of the 180's. Now the word is with some euro magazines the MV Agusta F41000 (The Ferrari of bikes, with no commitment to the Asian 186 limit) is the fastest bike they've ever tested. As noted above, I think there's about to be some indiscretion with the 186 limit.
