That’s looks like a 1948 part number so it appears to be a Panhead rigid frame. The straight leg down tubes mean it’s a ‘55-‘57 frame IIRC.

That’s assuming it’s real and not an aftermarket frame.

Very interesting. The front part looks original. The rear not so much. Especially the axle area. Looks like the rear section has been added. For some unknown reason. Maybe wrecked in the past?. Look right in front of where the rear tranny mounts are. Looks like a weld there.

Looks like a stock frame somebody did an add on hardtail section and did some other mods too, tank & dash mount is buggered up with a few other additions. Factory frames of that design had casting for the axle plates and you can see the weld joint on the lower rear section by the trans cross tube mount. Did a number of those back in the 70's.

Mike, welcome to the forum. Re the forging number on the front mount, I do not know what the letter Y represented but apparently it was added around 1973 and therefore it helps indicate Shovelhead. To the right it looks like there is a forging hallmark and a forging die number?

Rear mount forging number is 47671-58-Y. Apparently this Y was also added around 1973 so it too helps indicate Shovelhead.

Notice on the top mount the date code is on the left side as opposed to the R-H side. Therefore in this instance date code I 9 indicates the frame was made in September 1979 and it was probably used as a 1980 model.

Looks like the VIN boss has been removed?

As mentioned above the frame has been hardtailed but I don’t know if the hardtail is aftermarket or homemade.
Eric

top motor mount- I 9
front motor mount- 47664 48 Y

I have that same frame tab (front of tranny area - carb side) on my '79.

If the VIN is not stamped on the neck, then it is 1970 or older.

It was probably grinded off when they hard tailed it but I can’t see the evidence of that.
