A Common Missing Bolt Syndrome
I just realized that my scooter has suffered the Common Missing Bolt Syndrome (CMBS). I have talked to my dealer and he told me it is part H-D efforts to reduce costs of building the bike by not using Locktite on all the bolts. Estimated savings is 230 gallons a year.
If ya look on your scooter transmission, on the right side of the bike, the forward most bolt is the one they scrimp on.
If it is missing, don't even bother talking to the dealer. They might not even listen to ya if ya point it out to them. The bolt isn't even available at automotive or hardware stores. It's only made by H-D and they don't make spares.
The CMBS may strike you some day.

RE: A Common Missing Bolt Syndrome
You know things must be gettin really darn tight at the motor company if they now have to
skimp on loc tite on bolts ! I have read they also skimp on grease on rear axels on sportys etc.....
Hard to imagine just what else they might be skimping on to save a buck ?
