"This Act takes effect June 1, 2008", in Texas as I remember, all new laws take effect September 1st. FWIW

How do you fellow Patriots feel about these hand-holding laws?

Personally it kicks me in the pants that anyone has the right to force me to wear a stinkin seatbelt.

Don't get me wrong, the insurance coverage side of this debate does make sense and I agree with that part.

I'm 45 and don't hold my hand out to anyone, don't I have a right to decide for myself?
Salute,
Mark Wisecarver
It's the old "Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins". Those of us who choose to wear our helmets and seat belts end up subsidizing the costs of those who do not in the form of higher insurance premiums and other, non quantifiable costs(increased burnout in Public Safety personnel, hospital workers, etc). So it's not done to protect you from yourself, it's done to protect the interests of society as a whole. Personally, I don't care if you ride topless and end up in the head trauma ward, unless I have to pay for part of that, and then I get pissed.

“Too bad the conservative TX lawmakers have turned into their national GOP mirror.”
There are only two political parties in the U.S. now, the communist Democratic Party, and the socialist Republican Party. There is very little difference between either one of these. Some day we might even see prison terms for smoking a cigarette on your load bike, with no insurance!
