Default towing/trailering

ok, i might have to go to training across the country for a few months, 6 to be exact.
I drive a small car, and am wondering what are my options to tow the bike out.
I have to have a car there, so don't say ride the bike. That is my first choice, but wont work.
I don't think the car can actually have a hitch put on it, but i don't know.
My car is a chevy Aveo.

anyone ever use the dolly looking thing to take a bike somewhere?

thanks

John

You have no options with your equipment John. Maybe a u-haul truck? tow your car and put the bike in the back?

i was thinking of the u-haul also. i was cruising the net and found www.fatz.com but i dont think my car is set up to do that. I guess i really need to trade the car in on a small truck. I do like the gas mileage of my car though.

I don't know what year your car is so I just plugged in 2005.....but it sure looks like you can get a hitch for your car.

thanks! i can make an adapter to go from class 1 to 3. sweet! I never thought of checking out that site. I guess i could actually tow the car with the bike. I think the bike has more torq and HP than the car.

anyone have any experience with towing a bagger like this?

Big props to the PortaChopper as a (VERY) light-weight (around 125 pounds if I recall) and rather strong trailering option. I've used my brother's on occasion - It's really a pretty amazing piece.

Just a thought (from someone that pulls a larger horse trailer) the questions isn't just can my car pull a trailer but can my car STOP the trailer. I have seen people pulling 3 horse and bigger trailers with things like Blazers and Explorers and it scares me cause they may be able to load that trailer full and pull it, but if they needed to stop quickly....

Also think about the tranny on you car, not sure what the Aveo is rated for but being a compact I'd be concerned about it.

I think you'll be just fine. If you put a few fat people in that car and some luggage, you'd have as much weight as that bike and trailer. I don't know what bike you've got, but whatever it is, it and the portachopper should be well under 1000 lbs. Like I said, still less than 3 fat people and luggage, or four average people and luggage.

Just be careful and use your head and you should be fine. Make sure you allow plenty of distance to stop.
