...this......
...my FIL bought one like this in the mid 70's to get back into Harley ridin'
Put a lot of miles on it before he got the urge for a new bike.
Any actual pics of the bike are lost to time since he died over 30 years ago.
Would have been great if MIL hadn't 'lost them'..........................

Growing up since 1950 I became aware of the designation of the "dresser" Harley. It implied that if it was not a dresser it was at some stage of stripped. Not knowing anything about Harley-Davidson I assumed that the company made one motorcycle and that you could accessorize it up to the lever of a dresser or a biggo hurkey hog. And the size of the engine was 74 cu in. (No specific facts about other engine sizes are known in the general population.) Somewhere along the way the term Electra Glide began to be associated with the Harley. That was immense. I thought that I was becoming knowledgeable about Harleys.
Knucklehead? Panhead? Shovel? Those terms were unknown, as I did not grow up in a motorcycle culture. I was just a member of the larger world, just peripherally touched by advertising and impressions.
It is nice that the Electra Glide model has stayed around for over 50 years. It kept my desire to own a Harley-Davidson focused and a model was associated with my desire. Too many changes muddy the waters and kills the desire.
Long live the Electra Glide.
