When buying a new bike I always negotiate a few extras into the deal, and one of them is a no-charge first service. That one at least I like to have done at the dealership.
me too. but the op didn't buy a new bike, he bought used. he might have still been able to negotiate that into the purchase, but he didn't, so it's a moot argument now. in 20 years/9 different bikes, the only services that have ever been done at the dealership were the 1000 mile services. go by the owner's manual/service manual and check off everything on the list. then check a few other things that aren't on there.
I do all my own service, including the much dreaded first service. Here I am 7 years later, still alive. Bike is still intact and runs fine.
Taking it to the dealer this week to have the WHIM that I installed Saturday configured.
I let the dealer do the first, I do my own after that, probably do a better job too. I have not bought a service manual yet, probably won’t either, don’t need one for basic service, tires, and brakes, pretty simple stuff.
