1000 mile service

This. If they do everything they should, it's money well spent. Dealer did my 1k service and left parts loose that I had to fix myself after the fact.

Waste of time and money. Do it yourself. Can't tell you how many people i have told to mark their oil filter to see if was changed during the service. Many a tech over looks this or just doesn't bother to change the damn thing. The dealer service is just another way of screwing you. At least around here it is,. Quick oil change and wash = $500 I don't think so !

oh my, did i ruffle some feathers here
hey OP.....no offense intended
when I think about the gob of money I've had to and wanted to spend on my bike since I've owned it, 500 is drop in the bucket....hope your feelings were hurt and welcome...and blah blah blah......
i think the 1k service is worth it....after that, if you wrench it yourself, get a service manual, and a journal....and make sure you document the work you do and when you did it in case you need it for a warranty claim
your best money spent is the $200 for the manual

Ok I admit, I'm spoiled, as we have several respectable dealerships, but... My 1K service was less than $400, and they ARE SUPPOSED to check a LOT of things before it goes out. Personally, I have a lot of confidence in St. Charles HD. They've always taken good care of my bikes and good care of me.
Once the first service is done, get a service manual and do the rest. But that first one? I let the dealership handle.

Personally, I think the initial break-in service should be included with new motorcycle purchase. IMO it could be used as a sales perk initially and then also (as was the case with my last HD), them rolling outside to me a fully detailed and washed machine encouraging repeat service visits so thrilled with the Royal treatment.
I’m retired in a 55+ condo and can no longer do my own service. I have to rely on someone and would really prefer my dealer who’s sold me three new bikes.
