Classic versus Limited: Indian takes on Harley-Davidson

Independent testing shows that both bikes are equally matched.

Snomobiles are fun, but I prefer for my motorcycles to be made by a motorcycle company.

Agreed w/above - Cycleworld kinda destroyed the Indian... Quite frankly, if the CycleWorld review was the opposite, I still couldnt care... And I own a recent HST114

i recently took a road trip and found myself 'getting lost' and going on all kinds of bunny trails....I'd planned on having the bike serviced after the trip was through, but at the rate I was going, I was gong to be 1500-2000 miles over the mark where fluids needed to be changed

took me less than 5 minutes to find about 6 hd dealerships within one hour of me in MO....i ended up calling St Joseph HD in MO, told the service guy I was from Detroit and needed a little help on the road

he had me in first thing the next morning, and on the road an hour later

your not going to have that kind of experience with an Indian....they do not have the dealer network that HD has, in fact, they sell so few bikes, they will not disclose their numbers

they really aren't a serious competitor....just the only other American one that is noteworthy

Buddy I ride the most with rides an Indian. Recently got himself an "Elite" Roadmaster. We've done thousands of miles together the past few years and will usually hit the Indian dealerships when we're nearby.

I used to think they give you a lot for the money as compared to H-D, but not so much lately, and certainly not with their Elite (trying to compete with the CVO). Fit, finish, chrome and paint... It does not compare to H-D.

Truly riding the coat-tails of their American heritage.

There is still a five thousand dollar difference in pricing between their Elites and CVO models. Now in the category of their Dark Horse and Limited series baggers is where they out point Harley on features, from better suspensions to electronically adjustable windscreens to key less bags and far better blue tooth support. The key less bags and better blue tooth are both low hanging fruit that Harley could rectify very easily but suspension wise it will take a new frame and is long overdue anyway. Simply put, Harley hasn't been trying and Indian doesn't sell enough for them to take notice.
