Default Prohibited/Restricted use of Helmet Headsets

Noticed the link on discussion regarding some states require eye protection. Following the link, was also amazed that some states prohibit or restrict helmet headsets. guess no intercom or music on the UC, or just avoid those states.

The following link indicates several other states also have this same law:

Going down the list, it's really not that bad.

Alaska, Massachusetts, Rhode Island

prohibited to use or possess

California, Maryland, Minnesota, New York
single earphone only

Georgia, Pennsylvania
to be used for communication purposes only

The only ones that might get too ugly are Alaska, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. They have a restriction on even having them with you.

If you get ticketed your defense could be communication use. Remember that some cities are REQUIRING handsfree cellphone use which is a headset

Here's the AMA site, it runs down the laws for all 50 states.

True, but you got to remember they don't have a law against useing a headset in a cage. That would probably not cut it.

I think it would take one helluva dick cop to stop you, and ticket you for having helmet headsets, if you were just passing thru.

Illegal to possess? WTF....you think I am gonna sell them prior to crossing the border, and buy another set up on crossing into the next state? NOT

I certainly would not worry about that. Most likely the only way you would be stopped for something like that is if you were doing something stupid or looked like you are gonna start trouble.

I use two earpieces(I think the law's are confusingenough) that if that was the only thing you were going to get a ticket only for that the cops a big enough ***** that he would have found something else to write you for. I don't think there is any prohibition from wearing "standard" earplugs and some drop the background noise by as much as 20db. I cannot go for 10+ hours on the bike and NOT wear plugs of some sort.
