Has anyone ever done this ?

Has anyone ever done this ?
You know how everybody is always looking for a better air filter to increase horse power? because the more air the engine gets, the better ir performs?
Well, my question is .... I have an EVO 1998 Fatboy with a CV carburator and a stage 1. The air cleaner cover is the original round one. What would happen (and I wonder if anybody has ever done it) if I drill a bunch of holes on the side of the cover facing the front of the bike to get more air in?.... any comments will be appreciated (except smart ones :-)).

You can do it and it will increase air flow. Just make sure where you drill the holes that the air will go through the filter, and not around it. You will probably need to rejet the carb too.

not much if anything, removing the cover entirely would likely not do much either. the bike can only create so much vacuum.

I tend to agree with this statement because only so much can be pulled in so you would almost be better off re-routing the air intake so it gets more air ramed into it like a (I know noboby likes these) Kuryakyn hypercharger does. Or go big and put a super charger on it???

The stock back plates air starve the bike.
