I agree with the Butcher. I am starting to get agrivated when I'm talking to someone or just sitting down to relax and some fool has to crank open the throttle for NO REASON except to say hey look at me, and let's face it, thats all it is. Drag pipes do nothing for the engine on the street. I don't care if you loud pipeswhen used with common curtesey. I'm sure most of the people that abuse drag pipes would bitch and cry if someone else wakes them up at 3 in the morning.
Remember, we are a small group, if the majority of the public says quiet down---guess what---the politicians are going to abide by their request.
And for those that say they will give up riding if the govenment does anything------I say Buh-Bye.
And the ones that will not abide by the laws-----maybe after the 6th or 7th $100 ticket you will also knuckel under or go bye-bye.
JMHO

For those of you living in rural areas in middle America this issue probably hasn'taffected you yet and may not for some time. It's a much bigger problem in larger cities and as we've seen it's already spreading out to cities in other states. Denver, CO...for example. The other angle on this whole problem is it's a way for cities/townships toraise revenue by issuing citations. For a smaller town that doesn't have the tax revenue as larger city, it would be tempting to follow the example of larger cities to raise revenue (read issuing citations) and appease the general public by doing something to address the noise issue. It's a win-win situation for them. They can raise revenue and look like heroes in the public eye simultaneously.
I'm just saying....

Actually read the article and then read some of the responses to it. Some of these people have come up with some really good ideas. Get a noise meter and just start flooding the EPA and the Annaheim police department with complaints about construction equipment, horns, traffic noise, public transportation vehicles and of course the the sirens on emergency vehicles. Make a nuisance of yourself and the noise meter, if they refuse to follow through on the complaint, file a lawsuit citing failure to fairly apply the law.

Sad fact,
The bikes with the open pipes are going to screw us all over.
They can be heard blocks away and annoy the hell out of everyone, including me.
Add the fact that open pipes actually hurt the bikes performance everywhere but a drag strip.
I do not believe in the quietness of factory H-D mufflers, I might add, and my bike has the SuperTrapp SuperMegs 2:1 exhaust installed. A nice rumble, but not stupidly loud.
My pipes have saved me from some old farts in their cages that cannot see anything through their glaucoma, and many a deer has exited the middle of the road after hearing my pipes approach.
If everyone would use common sense on this issue we would all be lot better off in the long run,
My two cents,

You may be exaggerating how big the fire is based on how big the flames are where you live. These are big city problems, especially in Cali, the land of legislation. Lots of extra laws and rules for everything. Don’t loose sight of the fact that out of all the land mass in this huge country big city laws and rules don’t exist in the majority of it. I’d be willing to bet that even in the big state of Cali it doesn’t affect the majority of the state outside a few big cities, but that’s a guess. I can go in my front yard pull target practice with a 12 gauge and no one would care and certainly there is no law against it. Before you make fun of Missouri I could live in any of the 50 states and do the same thing, just not in the big city. There aren’t any flames where I live, in fact, I don’t even see any smoke.

There's an idea! Fight back to the point the city has to tell their officers ' lights only ' when in pursuit or pulling someone over. Your sirens are past the 81db limit....lol

What are you seeing in Texas as far as the noise issue is concerned? Are they clamping down in Austin, Houston or Dallas?

It's hard to gauge what's happening in the rest of the country unless it makes the headlines. I'm glad to know though that MO isn't in flames yet. Since this is a Federal Law, I'm not so sure the fire was even started here in CA and spread to other states. It just might be several smaller fires all across the country that we hadn't heard about and now they've grown to much larger ones. It would be interesting to take a poll and see just who is and is not being affected by this.
