Yep, I heard they're dumping the Sportster and reviving the 125cc Hummer line. Since Sportys are known to be a girls bike, the MoCo is trying to accommodate the ladies with a lighter, responsive bike that looks sexy while cruising around at 45 mph.
Its one of their top sellers, so I'd say whoever you heard this from is full of BS.
Well, not exactly. According to their quarterly reports, M8's account for about 75-80% of their sales. Sportsters and Street 500/750's are reported combined, and they account for 20%-25%. So they still sell a substantial amount, but Sportsters are definitely not top sellers.
I bet the profit per unit on a Sportster is pretty high as all the development and tooling costs were amortized long ago, once you are no longer taking profit to pay off the R&D costs, that money becomes pure profit
I think of this as Ford discontinuing the mustang? I know I’m no re branding specialist but isn’t the sportster what makes Harley Harley?
Why? They came about in the late fifties. Slap a Harley name on any twin they produce and its enough for me. Even a Livewire is through and through a Harley to me. It isn't just one motor, one model, or even the type of motor. It is a heritage you get with the name adorned to a motorcycle made in America
