Compilation of Closed HD Dealerships
#131
When I lived in Northwestern Illinois, I saw 3 nearby dealerships close their doors. There were unconfirmed rumors of them owing Harley-Davidson money. There were also rumors that the factory was also shipping them bikes they couldn't sell and demanding payment for them. Don't know for sure but the truth is likely in the middle somewhere...
The nearest dealer after that was then Rockford, Ill Harley. They are the oldest family-owned dealer in the US. After that, Milwaukee was the next nearest. Rockford offered a service to pick up your bike at your house. I hope the other are doing that because it was so convenient.
When Board Tracker Harley-Davidson closed, they called you and you had one week to pick up your bike. That was a BS PR mover if I ever heard one.
Chicago Harley-Davidson in Glenview was an expansion dealer off of the original Chicago HD in the 90's. The move to Rosemont was a smart one. There is more tourism there due to a casino, Hooters, and hotels opening.
There another older thread on this topic from a few years ago. Worth a read....

Ocean County Harley Davidson was apparently a confluence of developers eyeing the valuable land the dealership sat on in conjunction with the supply situation (unit deliveries) from the MoCo. OC H-D is in common ownership with Shoreline H-D and, from what I heard, (at least for now), no one from the OC store is losing their job - they will work at the Shoreline location.
