Default fun with the parts guy at dealer

Went to get filters and gaskets yesterday to do maint on my 07 Ultra. Tell parts guy I need the oil filter and derby cover gasket for my bike. First he says, kinda cocky, "doing the service yourself, huh?" I said yeah, I like to do most my own wrenching.

He don't look at a thing, just goes in the back and comes out with a filter (black) and a gasket(flat round like a frisby) and drops 'em on the counter. Starts talking to the guy next to him. Since you pay at another counter I assumed he thought I would pick 'em up and walk away. I stood there until he looked back and asked if I needed anything else. I said, "that ain't it."

Him, "you said 07 Ultra right?"

Me, "yes, that ain't it."

Him, "that's the same one they've been using for years."

Me, "If you would, could you check it, it should look more like this." as I pull theold one out of my pocket and show him. Looks like a big rubber band.

Him, "Oh man, they've changed it? Let me see. Hummm."

Me, "Oh, and my bad, I should have told you a chrome filter too."

Anyway got that straight, then I asked if my oil cooler had come in yet. He retrieved it, sat it on the counter and said, "you gonna install it yourself?"

I just smiled and said " I'm gonna try, but I'll bring it in if I run into trouble."

I just get tired of parts guys not thinking anyone else knows how to work on things. I used to be one years ago, and was a mech at a, uhhmm, Kawa, dealer.

I don't remember ever treating anyone like that.

Rant over.

Again I can't believe the arrogance some of you people have to deal with at your local dealerships. Never ceases to amaze me.

You got lucky, you caught his mistake. I went in last week to get the Chrome lower sliders for my Wifes deluxe, Asked for the ones that fit a 2006 Deluxe, got home, had them installed and was putting the wheel back on when I noticed, Something is wrong...Moron gave me the ones for an 07, the axle sixe is the ONLY difference.

Had to take them back apart, dump out the oil, clean them up, and take them back for the right ones...wasted 4 hours of work...

His response...Opppps. sorry bout that...

Most of those snots are just rookies, and they do not care about YOU. I do know a few parts guys that are good. But for the most part I get those guys.

Its bad to have to tell them their job and deal with the tude.

What I like about my local indy shop is when I order a part, no matter what it is, the owner looks it up on the microfiche to be sure, and has me look at it as well to confirm it.
