Harley Davidson Pan America -final form
#791
The prices seem pretty fair considering everything's included. Here there is sales tax which varies by State, plus more profit added in the form of various "fees" by unscrupulous dealers.

Rider magazine has a big write up on the Pan America, and they, too, feel HD hit a home run, plus the ARH will pull in folks like me that are vertically challenged. Now if we can just get a single rear swing arm, to make yanking rear tires and wheels off, they would have the perfect bike.
How would the bike be, two up, compared to a HD touring bike? Anyone ridden them two up? Pillion comfort?

Honestly... I think I could probably get a rear tire off a ktm (or pan America) quicker than a bmw (1200/1250). It's a single bolt (and axel) rather than 6. This isn't rocket science, it's literally the easiest maintenance item on these bikes. I can't R&R (including mounting and balance) in less than 30 minutes. If I didn't balance it (roadside repair) I could do it in less than 10.... 5 if it was a race.
Like everything in life, if you get the proper tools and technique everything is pretty simple. You just might get your hands a little dirty though.

You are kidding about the rear tire on the BMW right? 1) Centerstand....2) T50 Torx, remove screws...3) tire and wheel pull off the hub like a car. It's off in 3 steps totaling about 1 minute...3 to 5 if you are old like me. You don't even have to mess with the brake caliper.
Swapping my rear tire today for an upcoming trip to Colorado, and thought of this thread/post... so yeah, super easy. I would imagine the PA is just as simple. I've had a BMW with the single side and it took me longer, and was a pain to balance. YMMV

The balancing might be another issue, but one would not worry about that along side the road, or in the boonies. You could have that checked when you get to a shop or dealer. But yes, more mass to balance, but I would like not having to insure axle alignment, chain tension, etc. some bikes are easier to do than others, for sure.
