Oddly enough BMW just came out with a new chain I think for the middleweight GSs) that is supposedly a lifetime chain. Has some sort of diamond type coating on the links. Probably costs as much as a new final drive unit.
Diamonds on a BMW.... ya... thats gonna be cheap....

I saw the pic of that "Regina" chain. That's a far cry from the Diamond (brand) chains we used to buy form the industrial supply house for $10.00, every year.

Lifetime hard-coated chain means more disposable sprockets

Fair point. Guess it's like only making love with the lights out.

Once you ride one, on a proper route, you'll never look at any other form of riding the same again. Pavement will become boring, and you'll find yourself riding over curbs just to scratch the itch waiting for your next adventure.

I will say it certainly does add another dimension to riding. I came from an off-road backround so while not new to me, a big adventure bike was a bit of a venue change. Things as simple as slowly riding a scenic twin track over a pass really takes you into the view instead of seeing it from the road. Turning off the ABS and backing the bike into gravel curves at speed is a hoot.

That said, I am far from bored on pavement. I enjoy that as well.
