Default Stupid things HD does...............

ok,, I dont want this to come off as a BAG ON H. D. post,, but you all gotta agree to some degree,
some of the MOCO's ideas, designs etc,,, got me wondering,, WTF,, ? Who built this....bla bla...
why I started this,, I just got done doin a Prim'y and Tranny oil change on the Ultra.....
so,,, here it goes,,,,"STUPID THINGS FROM H.D.!!!
#1. Why int the he11 do I have to remove the pass. floorboard + a 5 bolt cover to add oil to the
Prim'y??? couldnt they make a oil fill hole like on the tranny?
#2,, Who came up with these friggin "O" rings on the drain plugs,,, no other motors use it this way?
Use a shouldered bolt with teflon/copper washer,,, worked on every auto for years
#3..I have awsome set of tools,,, lots of tools,,,,, Why after this oil change is 1/4 of them layin on the floor??? torx, allens, sockets, ratchets,
couldnt they make all bolt heads standard???
#4 Biggest one for now,,, and for the life of me can't figure it out,,,
with 2 bikes I gotta get out the manual every oil change,, cause..
to check the oils,, on, level,, or jiffy stand,, dip stick in,, all the way in , setting on the lip,,not screwed in,,,
leaning staright up,pointing left, pointing right, sun up, sun down,,,, Jeeee-sus H cee-rist!!!
why cant they all be like the oil dip stick,, on jiffy push it in, pull it out,,,can anyone get their bike to stand upright?

thats my start,,,, let us hear yours

Why do they run the clutch adjuster nut down behind the front fender. On my metrics I used to own it was right there next to the clutch lever and was much quicker and easier to tighten and loosen.

Speaking of clutch cables, why do I have to remove my exhaust and the tranny side cover to change the cable?

Just imagine if they let a few of us design a bike. It would revolutionize HD for years to come. But, it would hurt their accessory and mantience plans. Think, just buy a bike and ride it without want to do other things to make it right.

I agree wit ya. But it ain't just Harley. Took me 4 hours to change the da** air filter in my Wing before I sold it. Had more tupperware laying on the floor than my wife had in the kitchen, and I'm far from being mechanicly challenged.

This ain't my first Harley though, and I intend to do all my maint on it. You just gotta get into the right frame of mind. You know, take your time, like spending quality time with it. I'm with ya on the tools part too. The reason I have so many is because everytime I've worked on something, I've had to go buy a "special" tool for it. They accumilate fast that way.

My biggest gripe is the belt though. Replaced the one on my 03 Sportster that had a turbo. Snapped it. It was a weekend job, and about a case too.

I agree with the above, but maybe this is the small price we pay for having the coolest make of two wheeler on the planet.
After all there is only two kinds of motorcylces-----Harley Davidson, and all the rest.
