I hear ya,, and agree.... but what the heck,,, lets point out these retarded flaws,, maybe someone
at the MOCO will come up with a more useful design change instead of childrestraint buckles for the 09's

ok,, I dont want this to come off as a BAG ON H. D. post,, but you all gotta agree to some degree,
some of the MOCO's ideas, designs etc,,, got me wondering,, WTF,, ? Who built this....bla bla...
why I started this,, I just got done doin a Prim'y and Tranny oil change on the Ultra.....
so,,, here it goes,,,,"STUPID THINGS FROM H.D.!!!
#1. Why int the he11 do I have to remove the pass. floorboard + a 5 bolt cover to add oil to the
Prim'y??? couldnt they make a oil fill hole like on the tranny?
#2,, Who came up with these friggin "O" rings on the drain plugs,,, no other motors use it this way?
Use a shouldered bolt with teflon/copper washer,,, worked on every auto for years
#3..I have awsome set of tools,,, lots of tools,,,,, Why after this oil change is 1/4 of them layin on the floor??? torx, allens, sockets, ratchets,
couldnt they make all bolt heads standard???
#4 Biggest one for now,,, and for the life of me can't figure it out,,,
with 2 bikes I gotta get out the manual every oil change,, cause..
to check the oils,, on, level,, or jiffy stand,, dip stick in,, all the way in , setting on the lip,,not screwed in,,,
leaning staright up,pointing left, pointing right, sun up, sun down,,,, Jeeee-sus H cee-rist!!!
why cant they all be like the oil dip stick,, on jiffy push it in, pull it out,,,can anyone get their bike to stand upright?

thats my start,,,, let us hear yours

I know we're doing a reeeeeealy good rant here, and I'm glad that we can be here to offer our understanding of all things Harley, to hopefully ease your pain. So, I thought I'd throw in this tidbit of info.I put a piece of 2x4 under the kickstand to level the bike when I change the primary fluid.

It would be nice to not need tools to check tranny and primary fluid levels.

If your gonna own one and work on it, you gotta have the motorcycle jack. I agree about the oil filter. There's bound to be a better place.

The drain plug for my transmission is a royal pain sometimes. The bike is too low to get my head under there to see it because it is wedged up in between my shocks and I've got a fat head. I changed my tranny oil the other night and when I came back out the next morning half of it was on the ground. Turns out that the plug had threaded in crooked and never seated properly. So I had to undo it and waste the $11 worth of Amsoil I had in there. Good thing I had an extra bottle handy. It took me about 15-20 minutes to finally get that drain plug in straight. I am definitely buying a lift before my next service.

My biggest complaint is the chain-drive for the camshafts. They should have used gears.
As for maintainance times,I can change all three fluids, the air filter, and the spark plugs in less time than it took to change just the air filter on my Valkyrie.

If you want to see an oil filter that is a pain in the **** to change...you should seewhere it is on my 96 yamaha 750. Have to almost completely remove the brake pedal and the right peg mount just to get to the damn thing.
