Saw the Softail Standard in person Saturday

"Oh, and Dickey, you are crazy for getting rid of that Evo Softail Custom. To me it is one of the most iconic looking bikes Harley ever built. I was looking to buy one when I came across a great deal on my Heritage that I couldn’t pass up so I went that way instead."
I know; I kick myself mentally every time I look at that pic. But, I DID get top $$ for it; it was back when you could get close to new price for a used bike, and I replaced it with a brand new '05 NightTrain. But yea; I was a dope for selling it!
'99 was the last good looking FX Softail; they softened the look when they went to the 1 piece tank.
Now it just looks like a Honda VLX. Pitiful.

I really don't understand what happened in 2018 at HD. They completely gutted their entire line-up from 2017: whole Dyna line, whole Softail line, whole Vrod line, the Flattracker, the CVO Breakout, the entire S series, etc. All replaced by a whopping eight models (initially) that have zero character or soul. I would love to hear from the person who actually made this decision as to why. Only thing that makes sense is corporate sabotage.

I'm curious about something.
Forget the styling considerations. When the MoCo went to the new softail frame, one of the primary benefits was incorporating what was essentially a sportbike style monoshock rear swingarm/suspension.
So, does it work? I've never ridden one of the new ones. Are they still "sloptails", or did the new design tighten them up?

When I read some of the opinions, I know why Harley will not survive long term. Every change, they get their azz chewed out. It's not an Evo, it;s not this, it;s not that etc. When will anyone realize that those old designs don't cut it anymore. Modern and younger buyers don't want what their dad or grandad had. Us old guys don't buy much anymore. How old is your bike Dicky ?
