I have to laugh, looks like a Honda, my sides.

It is the most back to basics Harley out there and you get a M8 for a little more than a dolled up Sportster. Only two features I did not care for was the air cover and the small tank. I would like the fins polished but can live with it and I suspect many would just make a fully murdered out bike with this as a starting point while the rest would chrome the puppy up.

I don't understand the hate, you get a M8 platform just begging for customization at a price point that makes you question how they can charge so much for the other models when the motor makes the bike. At least it doesn't have gaiters like the Street Bob, I never liked that look regardless of brand. Hell they have $1699 customization package all laid out which throws on a two up seat, some bags, and a windscreen, making for damn quick bike to take on a good ride

I like it. Well, OK maybe the small tank and rear fender would not be how I would have done it, but for a bar-hopper/cruiser I remember when just about all Harleys looked like that. In fact, I can remember when an Army surplus duffel bag on the back and a bedroll on the front made bikes that looked like that "touring bikes."

For those of you - you know who you are (not judging!) who trailer to an event to cruise and enjoy the experience, it would be a good bike. If history is an indication, bikes much less capable than it were "all around/do-it-all" bikes back in the day! In fact, bikes like that were ADV bikes before anyone even knew what ADV-ing was.

I don't see an issue with the Softtail Standard although the tank and rear fender I would have personally done a little different. To me the bike looks like a great starting point for customization at a msrp that does not break the bank. I have yet to see any auto or motorcycle manufacture who has a lineup of vehicles that fit my taste from top to bottom, I thin some folks forget that not everyone shares their taste and that is the reason there are so many models to choose from

If you want an M8 there is nothing wrong with the Softail Standard.

Mine is a 2001, however.

Affordable is good.

It has its place:
1) For a woman or no so tall guy.
2) Price point.
3) Blank canvas for customization.
I’d cruise one around town or backroads. It would be better around town than an 800-900lb Touring bike.

looks like a Honda?!?!?
maybe I'm not discriminating enough ...but it looks unmistakably like a Harley to me

I like the Low Rider better (the chrome one, not the blacked out S version)
But other than the airfilter cover, the Softail Standard looks pretty good to me

as far as fender fetishes goes...some of the Harley model fenders remind me of Honda's 305 Dream from back in the day
That duckbutt swoop on the ends has never appealed to me
