Powder-Coating: Durability / Color
Considering having my fork lowers coated in gloss black.
Does the black stay black? Forever, how long?
I live in Phoenix with my bike sitting out in the sun all day while
I'm at work so it gets more than its fair share of U.V light & general sun exposure. I don't want to do the powder coat if its going to fade or change colors in a few years.
Any experience on this?

No problems with mine so far. I put the HD powder coated engine guard on, and had powder coated forks installed also (done by one of the guys on here, purchased via Ebay). I took some other parts to Affordable Powdercoating in Phoenix (highway pegs, light bar for my 05 EG Standard), and so far they have held up ok.
Admittingly I don't park my bike outside all that much; most of my exposure is only from riding, but it's held up well so far.

I have alot of black wrinkle powdercoated stuff on my bike, it is almost 2 years and it stills looks just as good if not better then all the stock stuff. The shop I go to get it done at says it will look great for a LONG time.................. I live in San Diego and it gets ALOT of sun too...........

I've PC'd a ton of stuff on my bike & so far so good. I dunno about "forever", but for the 2'ish years I've had it, all is well....

My bike has a good bit of powder coated black on it and I don't have any fading. The handle bars , lights engine covers etc. have been powder coated and these areas have been virtually trouble free for 2 years.

Azgunner - if possible get what is known as a Super-Durable Polyester.
It has superior color and gloss retention compared to the typical Polyester Powder coating.
Stay away from Epoxies and Hybrid powders.
When you see a haze in a new black powder coating it is usually attributed to gloss modifyers or slip agents - you would want neither for your use.
Iwould think in your neck of the woods all quality powderjobbers would have a super durable gloss black.
good luck

Thanks for the replies. Cryptoboy, we need to get together for a ride soon!
Anyone heard of these guys & their product. Not quite the same as the typical P-C.
