1990 flhtp?

RE: 1990 flhtp?
I have an 89 FLHTP and trust it to take me anywhere. The 90 is a great motor, it's a bottom breather and has the Torrington cam bearing.
7500 is an ok price but only "if" the bike is in very good shape. I would check that the shifter shaft on the tranny is night and tight, they loosen up over time and are cheap to buy but require a lot of labor to replace.
I would also check the base, head and rocker gaskets for leaking, check the brake pads, tires, rear drive belt and suspension. for the front suspension is will have air assisted anti-dive and the rear suspension will have air as well. Best to check with a HD pump to see if it will hold or leak air.
Bunch of other stuff, but it's best to look at the big things like that up front before making an offer.

The price sounds slightly high but if it is as nice as you say then the price is good. I have a 96 evo and would not hesitate to get on it and take off across country. In fact, I will be doing that next month. You might post this question in the Evo section.

There are a whole slew of brackets that attach the stock touring seat to the bike. I don't know what the Pbike has as stock but the touring seat has a nose clip that slides into a reciever on the frame/gas tank, a grab bar that mounts to the rear fender from the tire side to the seat bottom and then to the tourpac mounting rack. In other words a lit of little fiddley ****.In my opinion - get thenoseclip in place to locate the seat then fab a bracket to mouny the rear of the seat to either the fender or what ever rack you are going to use.
It's an old bike, get used to making things for it.

Thanks Andy. I would imagine the dealer would have the necessary hardware? I'll take the bike and seat to them and maybe match up the hardware needed. I wanna keep the cop seat (very comfortable), but mama wants to ride too, so I'll switch em out as needed. I kinda freaked out when we got the 2 up seat cuz it wasn't the same mounting principle. The cop seat has aperpendicular bolt on the frront and of course, the shock. The dealer told me (Rocky Mtn. Harley) that any 2 up seat for 83-96 FLH would fit. So That's what we bought. Found a NOS seat (brand new) for $120. Thanks for youre help, Jay.

I bought my first dresser this year for $6500 and it is a 1990 FLHTC. It had 58,000 miles but the engine was replaced with a newer version. I put Chrome forks on and took it on a 2,200 mile trip with three buddies. To date I have just under $7,500 into it and it is the best money I spent. ENJOY

The dealer would have the hardware but you'll pay handsomely. I would reccomend getting the 87-90 Big Twin parts book from the dealer ($30-$40 i think) It shows all the parts in exploded assembly drawings. With the pictures you can head for Ebay and get the bits you need fairly cheaply. I have seen quite a few early grab bars and tour pack mounts out there.
Have fun!

Congrats on the new (to you) bike. I have an 04 RK police bike and really like it. I kept the police air suspension seat and added a sundowner rear seat for my wife and aremoveable back rest and rack.
Don't give up on the police seat. I really like mine.
Enjoy your ride andkeep the shiney side up.
