Default Riding on borrowed time

I bought my 07 Heritage over 3 yrs. ago. PO (one owner) said front tire was recent and both tires looked good with no rot and minimal wear. Replaced rear tire within 6 mo. of purchase and all has been great.
I decided to replace the front tire before my upcoming trip to Maggie Valley and Myrtle Beach. Although the tread wear was even with little left and still no visible signs of dry rot. I realized I had never actually checked the date code. It was 09, the tire is 11 yrs. old! I am very lucky to not have a major tire failure at high speed. That tire was well beyond the safe recommend life.I was foolish to let that happen.
Ordered new Dunlop 401, tube and rim strip. Had dealer install, balance and check bearings today, for $50. BTW original tire was Dunlop 402. Bike has 34K but don't really know when that front tire was put on.
I'd say that says something for the tire brand. Please check your tire date code even a new tire could have been on the shelf for a while, don't take a huge risk like I did.

My compensator is also showing signs of wear, also on borrowed time, so just got my Man-O-War Motorsprocket. As soon as I get rotor I will install and do three hole fluid change.
Be ready for upcoming trip then. Hope Maggie Valley and Myrtle Beach make up for screwed up Daytona trip

Good on you for checking ur tires.
T-CLOCS, it's a wonderful thing...

T = Tires
C = Controls
L = Lights
O = Oils
C = Chassis
S = Stands

I also add "B" for brakes.

I sold my '92 Heritage to one of my cousins in '94.
He traded it in on a '15 Tri-Glide in the summer of '15 with just a little over 50,000 on the odometer
I knew that I had replaced the rear tire but not the front tire.
When I asked him about the tires he said that he thought that he had replaced them once since he owned the bike!

Same thing happened to me. About a month ago I decided to check the date code on my tires and discovered they were from 2012!
Still had plenty of tread and no signs of dry rot. They were Michelin C2's. I replaced them with a fresh set of 3's. Feeling much safer on these.

Guy i work with needed a new front tire. I educated him about the date code and told him to be careful ordering online. He came in the other day and said the tire he had ordered off of ebay came and it has a 0815 date code...i told him to send it back...he had it mounted. Hes one of those 2 rides a year type guys and that tire will be 12 years old before he wears it out. He replaced the last one because i found dry rot around the sidewall right at the rim. He stores it in an open pole barn in the winter too. Told him no way I'd put that tire on my bike and ride it alone let alone with my wife. Young and dumb

The rubber gets to where it is "hard" for lack of a better word,and the tires will slip on the least bit of wet road...
