Saw a bike go down today...
I don't know for sure if he ran the stop sign or stopped, then went thru, but the lane was not clear...
Any of you that have been this close to the scene will know the deep down in your gut sadness, and anger I felt seeing him laying in the road being attended to by first responders...
He was wearing a full helmet. And if the condition of his helmet, after the accident, is any indication, it no doubt saved his life, at least in that respect...
He was rushed off in an ambulance strapped to a backboard, and I do not know his condition as I type this. I see his wife/girlfriend, in tears, being escorted back to a car to follow him to the hospital, I'm standing there with my two nephews(ages 3 & 5), thinking about my family, friends, and so on, (what if that were me sort of thing) when a guy, walking from the scene with a child holding each of his hands, comes face to face with me and says " I sure knocked the **** out of him, didn'tI"...
I think I stopped breathing there for a few seconds, I honestly do not know what stopped me from taking his head off right there, all the LEO's? the kids watching in AWE of all the flashing lights and sirens? maybe he isn't thinking clearly?...
Whatever the reason, I just didn't do it, I responded with a few well chosen but very profane words and walked away... Now I have to deal with bottled up rage( I'm going riding for a while)

We went to the ROT Rally and several of us headed down past Kerrville to the best motorcycle highways in Texas. As we came out of some of the curves a couple in front of us decided that seeing the sites from the bike wer better than keeping an eye on the road. He went off the road into the ditch then high sided, both riders tumbling along with the bike. Fortunately, the bike never landed on either of them. We called for the ambulance and his buddies came back realizing that they were no longer behind them. They were very very lucky...it was a sobering reminder of how you have to always be your best on the bike, using your skills like you should and really approaching others as if you are invisible to them....during the time out there we all were bummed about the couple..we made our way back to Austin and after some Hot Wings at Hooters we were ready for fun....

I too saw a guy go down after hitting a deer. I've never forgotten that scene of him tumbling along side the bike. I've learned a bike is not something to be on when upset. It just ain't safe.

You weren't very clear in your post. You said you aren't sure if HE ran the stop sign etc. Do you mean the biker, or the car?

I gotta admit, I don't always see things the first time. But, man I'd agree you showed restraint in *NOT* taking his head off. That type is the worst, no comprehension of his actions, and certainly no respect for the human life he was responsible for damaging.. My thoughts and prayers for the rider, I hope he recovers..
Ride safe man.
