Harley-Davidson VR1000-Styled Sportbike Rumors Abound

For the USA market, Street and Sportster models have been made at the York plant for the last 9 months or so. One needs to remember York used to produce over 300K bikes a year so they have plenty of capacity there. The new model has also been assembled there for all the prototypes, so I assume thats where they will be produced. They have plants in Brazil and Thailand as well as the joint venture in India so the overseas bikes will end up at one of those to get around taxes and tariffs I'm sure.

CMon...lets be serious.....this bike will be priced like a 2020 Ducati but will perform like a 1990 Ducati. there is NO WAY in hell that the sportbike crowd is going to endorse it. Look at EBR Racing right now (Yes, Eric is back in business for a 3rd time!!). THe EBC 1190 is a great bike, but it cant sell even its tiny inventory. This will be a bike that the guys that liked the VR1000 can POSSIBLY afford as a throwback to when they were young....myself, I will stick to keeping my 2013 Ducati alongside my Harley....

Old bikes (or retro sport bikes) are beautiful, just like classic cars from another era. New sport bikes are striking, google it if you don't know the difference.

As soon as better music comes along, let me know. Until then, I'll keep listening to the bands that can actually play their instruments, have talent, and write unforgettable compositions.

I've owned many more sportbikes than Harleys and would LOVE to buy a harley sport bike. However, here is what they would need to do to pull me in, and I suspect many sportbike riders, as I could easily go buy a cbr1000rr (hence my user name, I love CBRs
)
1. Price - it HAS to be competitive with - I can buy a tried and true Honda easily, so why would I pay more for a new bike from a companay that is not known for speed and innovation, things that are kind of the purpose of a sportbike.
2. Fit into the supoersport class - don't look to ugly or "weird" (cough *Buell* cough).
3. Good, compact engine - DOHC, high revving, lightweight and not too big. Probably not going to have separate trannys and primaries on this one.
4. Aluminum frame, and if not, a trellis would work, but no funky BS.
5. Something Unique - After all my talk above about fitting in to the supersports, they need something to set them apart. And not huge outer discs that look like they'd scrape the ground at insane lean angles, but something a bit more subtle. Heck, being able to change the color on the dash LEDs could be enough. Or maybe rear view cameras, or something - the point is, there has to be a unique function or feature that wouldn't draw away from the bike but rather pull people in.
