Default chrome safe adhesive remover

i recently bought steath grips and my thumbs hurt a lot when im riding, i think its either where i hold onto them or it could also be the new drag bars but i dont think it is, so my plan is to take out the rubber inserts that are adhered into the grooves (anyone attemoted anything like this?) and i'd imagine there would be some adhesive residue behind that, any suggestions on how to get that out?

Goof Off is lemon oil based, very easy on metals.

I even have good luck using Goof Off on burnt on heel marks on the pipes. Love the stuff.
