payraise or not!!!!!!!!!!

RE: payraise or not!!!!!!!!!!
Money is nice to have, but at what cost. I could work a lot more, and make a lot more money. I could move to the casino my wife works at, make more money, and work less. But, my kids would have to go to a sitter. I am very proud of the fact that both my girls don't spend time with anyone but me and the wife, never a sitter. That is a choice I have made. If money was tight, it may have influence over that, and although, I would like a bit more money... My family and girls come first. Heck, if I could find a way to pay bills and not work, I would be doing it. I am about as close to that as I can get. My girls are only in the house for a short time, and only young once. I am sure at 18-19, they will be off to college, and at that time, I may decide to go for the money. But, for now, I will manage to stay where I am at, and spend all the time I can with my family. That is my choice, and I think you made the right one, as well.

I was offered a promotion today, it would have been a $12,000.00 a month pay raise, but I would of had to drive an hour each way.And yes, I thought wow, a payraise and a good ride every day, but then the thought of those winter months popped into my head. Needless to say I turned it down.

Initially I voted yes - but after seeing that you would not only spend amost 100 minutes more commuting but ALSO 120 minutes more of working time then it doesn't make sense.
Nearly 4 more hours of your day than currently for 1000k a month? That's 4400 more minutes of your time spent in a month and they value your time at 4.4 cents a minute.. before taxes..
Screw it.

Good points here. An hour each way can shave some real quality time IF that's a concern, but not everybody has kids ballgames, etc, to tend to I have a 45 minute commute to/from St Louis every day and I don't even notice it.

Due to the unstable economy and rising fuel/maintenance costs, I wouldn't do it for just a $1K a month.
Do the math... Figure out what your time is worth for travel/time away from family, cost of fuel for a month, plus maintenance costs, then you decide.
