Harley "going to sh*ts"
*Just got back from the "world's largest Halrey dealer" here in Las Vegas.
"Got talkin" to the parts guys and that was what he said, basically "Harley is going to the sh*ts"[sm=wtf.gif]He recommended that we keep the last of the good ones, the2000-2005 Harleys. With all the changes happening and coming up, he said those bikes will be sought after in a decade or so.....and will be worth more than now.
I wonder if its true.....
comments?

I don't know, but I don't plan on getting rid of any of my current Harley's.
My 2003 FatBoy is used more than any of the others, and it's probably the best "All Around" bike I've owned since I purchased my first new Harley in '72.

Hate to say it, but I think he's close to being right. But he's too late on the years. Gotta figure that when the Evo engines went to a main bearing race pressed into aluminum instead of a steel insert (Twinkie motors are this way, too), then Twinkie motors with tappet blocks as part of the cases, 1 piece cranks & flywheels (more-or-less), and now 6 speed trannies with most of the gears made with the shaft, that HDs are becoming throw-aways. When the crankcases are wallowed out from one too many race being pressed in, or the tappet blocks are worn out, it'll mean new cases, or way expensive weld/machining. If one gear on the tranny shaft craps, it'll dang near cost more than a new aftermarket tranny to get it fixed. [:'(]
Maybe Honda already bought HD and they're keeping it quiet 'til the inline 4 water-cooled HDs come out in 2010.
I like THE MAMA's new Nightster, but I have no illusuons that there will be a bunch of 'em around 30 years from now.
Sometimes progress just plain sucks.

Definitely keeping the 02.
I want another one, but waiting just a bit for two reasons - one, if I buy it while deployed it's cheaper. Two, I'm hoping some of the kinks I've heard about get worked out (I won't buy a new model car in the first couple years it's out either )
But I don't want to wait too long, because I get the feeling the days of mass produced air-cooled big twins are numbered (hopefully they'll still be around in the "custom" world for a while longer yet...)
