nevada72 aka Bob first straddled a bike as a kid 53 years ago. The biker bug bit him and never let go. He says he was basically raised by bikers and some of his favorite memories were helping on their Pans and Shovels. By “help” it was mainly handing tools. The reward was usually a ride on the finished product, which was always a thrill. He recalls the vivid sensation of hanging on for dear life to a denim cut and seeing nothing but the ground is a blur in the big three piece patch is face. Life intervened and Bob went in a different direction, but he will never forget the valuable learning experience in the desire to work on, and ride, motorcycles. Either way, it was still a great experience and that desire to work on motorcycle’s stuck with him. Over the course of 5 decades Bob has owned well in excess of 100 bikes.
Asking which bike is his favorite is a bit dumb, but I had to ask. He responded with, “That’s like asking what’s my favorite girl – blonde, red head, or brunette. I like them all for what they bring. From my old beater Honda 350 when I was 16 to my current Street Glide. They are all fun.”
But likely the most memorable of the bikes would be his 2014 Street Glide, 2015 Yamaha FJ109/1971, BMW R75/5/1964, and his Honda Dream.
Bob’s present main interest in addition to riding is bike restoration. The next bike on deck? It is his Kawasaki GPZ750.
If you know Bob at all, you likely have read one of his many ride reports. A “poser” he is not. He actually slides into the saddle and logs the miles. Which of his many rides stand out? Said like a true biker he replied, “…they all have been great.”. When push comes to shove for his most outstanding ride; and after much thought, nevada72 said it is likely the first ride he took with his significant other Cheryl almost ten years ago. If you have not read that ride report, you can find it by using this link, My Epic Ride.
Grass does not grow under Bob’s feet. He belongs to BMWMOA, Airheads Vintage BMW Group, VJMC, and a variety of other vintage bike clubs.
For a living and to fuel his biker lifestyle, he works for a large manufacturer of medical devices with a huge territory ranging from Ohio, extending westward to South Dakota.
Though not presently married, he is “…spoken for…” by the love of his life Cheryl. Bob has two children. A 31 year old daughter who has 2 daughters of her own, a 2 and a 4 year old (which makes ‘ole nevada72 a Grand Pappy), and a 29 year old son.
Does Bob know how to pick ‘m or what?
With someone so busy, can he have hobbies? Well, yes if you are nevada72. How about in addition to vintage biker restoration you add, target shooting, home renovating, home design, bicycling, swimming, traveling, and plain old cavorting and cajoling.
Again, my friends, please help us welcome Bob to our October 2020 MOM.
From the HDF staff, CONGRATULATIONS Bob!
Note: Yesterday I touched base with Bob regarding this posting today and he said, "Tomorrow I'll be on the road all day, so I won't be available to accept my tiara from Dan. Please tell them to hang it by the door on his way out." <-- LOL!! Therefore, if Bob is late getting back to anyone today, that is why.
~ If anyone has a future MOM recommendation, kindly PM BuzzCap7. Thank you. ~
